If you have a business, you have a website; and your website is the forefront of your business and brand. This is where your viewers learn who you are and what you do; and most importantly is a place to display your brand.

In this world of business your website needs to be impactful and most importantly easy to understand.

Here we give you a list of 10 tips to make your website better. Go through this list and ask yourself how your business’ website can be better in these areas.

1 - Brand Heavy

Whether you like it or not, your website is the forefront of your brand, and is one of the biggest impact makers of your business. Your website needs to be heavily branded with not just your visual identity but your brand foundation as well.

Half of a great website is a website that screams your business visually.

2 -  Remove your home tab on the navigation bar

A general rule of thumb with design is: remove all elements that aren't necessary visually or do not provide any crucial information. It is common knowledge now that clicking on the logo of a website will take you to the homepage. Leaving the home tab in your navigation is unnecessary and clutters your navigation.

3 -  Design isn't about being minimal its about being simple in getting your message across

A lot of what are considered a good website seems to have very little elements and can be considered “minimal”. Having a minimal website doesn’t mean it's a good website. Think of it more like the process of creating a good website makes the byproduct of a simple looking website. Aim for having less elements that have a lot more meaning. This ends up with the product of a “simple” looking website but each element is crucial and impactful.

4 - Get rid of your videos

If you need a video to explain what you do and who you are, then you have an ineffective website. There is a way to have a tasteful video, by putting an auto playing video somewhere on your website (usually at the beginning of the website in the hero image). This is a silent video that its only purpose is to add to and compliment the visual identity of your website.

Typically viewers of your website are just scanning through and not focusing hard on every part of your website. A lot of viewers will not take the time to watch a video or even watch all the way through. Having easily scannable information to get your point across will be much more effective than a video, especially for your brand.

5 - Space, Space, Space

Don’t overwhelm your viewers and bombard them with information. Spread out your information and give space to each element especially if it’s important information about your brand.

6 - Keep It Scannable

Keep your information so that your viewers are able to scan the information but still be able to get more information if they choose to read more. You do this by providing information in the most condensed way possible while still getting your point across.

7 - Give Value

Provide a separate form of value from your website. Typically this is done through a blog or resources but be creative with your business and how you can provide some value to viewers and give them a reason to keep coming back to your website.

8 - Make it easy to get in touch

Provide multiple ways to contact your business. Provided a contact form, phone number, email and address (if applicable). Put all these together somewhere on your website like a contact page or at the footer of all your pages.

9 - Who, What, and Why in 2 Scrolls

A good rule of thumb for your website is that your viewers should be able to know who you are, what you do and why you do it as a business in about 2 scrolls. Don’t let your viewers dig for this information and it should be the first information given to your viewers.

10 - Keep it clean and remove anything unnecessary

The goal for a website is to look clean. This is from removing anything unnecessary visually. Remove elements like useless text or visual elements that don’t compliment your visual identity.
